Our cookery teacher (the one who said 'Gels, there was a trahmp - yes that's how she pronounced it - sleeping in the dell last night!') asked us one week to bring in convenience foods. My mother, who would never in a million years have used a Vesta curry, sent me in with Instant Whip (remember that? Precursor of Angel Delight). The teacher was not impressed.
Mrs Gough sounds very keen on baking! I remember our very 1st dish in Domestic Science was apple crumble. But I have a mortifying memory of the Domestic Science exam. We were under exam conditions so our teacher wasn't supposed to help anybody, but she sort of drifted past me & murmured in my ear, 'Sheila, I think you need to look at your potatoes.' Of course, they were boiling dry & had probably already started to burn the saucepan.
Ahhh. Good old Domestic Science. I remember that. And a science it certainly is imho which is why I'm still so bad at it. Great post! I am sure Jackie Smith forgives you. How have your bread-making skills come on since then? ;)
I have fond memories of Fran setting off to school with her 'domestic science' basket of ingredients. Many, many years ago. It seems like yesterday!
I refused to do Domestic Science merely because we were supposed to as girls. I did metal work instead! #alwaysarebel

Seems to me you did exactly what the teacher asked!

I assume you passed the exam!

I think I may have made bread about twice in the intervening 50 years. So, not exactly HONED skills.
